Four
men got together in February 1998, to participate in the annual Singing
Valentine Program
that is run by the Shenango Valley Chapter of the Society for
the Preservation and Encouragement
of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America (the
Penn-Ohio Singers). After spending two days
delivering Singing Valentines, they
enjoyed it so much they decided to stay together and continue
singing as a
registered quartet under the name, Sound
Advantage. Their primary goal is to support
the Penn-Ohio Singers by
providing quartet entertainment during Chorus programs, as well as to
entertain local groups by singing at their various programs. Since 1998 they have performed numerous times as part of Penn-Ohio Singers� programs, as well as providing the entertainment at various area events. Current members of the quartet are:
Dave Wayland, tenor,senior member of the quartet both in age and
barbershop harmony experience, has been singing barbershop since 1955. He has sung with three other
quartets and two different choruses. He is a founding member of the Shenango Valley Chapter.
Dave and his wife Patty
live in Hubbard, Ohio. He is a retired self-employed glass installer.
While this is his first venture in quartet singing,
Allen Waite, lead,
has been singing barbershop harmony since 1982 as a member of the Penn-Ohio Singers. Allen and his wife, Linda, live in
Jamestown, PA. He is an employee of Pymatuning State Park.
Jack Morris, baritone,
has been involved with music all of his life, and is a charter member of
the Penn-Ohio Singers.He began singing barbershop harmony in 1966. Jack lives in Greenville with his
wife and daughter. He is Vice President of Operations at Pymatuning Telephone Company.
Forming
a quartet from his church choir, Roger
Towle, bass, began singing barbershop harmony in 1984 in Bethel Park, PA.
Upon moving to Grove City, PA in 1995, he joined the Penn-Ohio Singers,
his
first experience with a barbershop chorus. He lives in Grove City with his wife
Deb. Roger is
the Vice President for Financial Affairs of Grove City College.
